Tonight’s Barnstable Town Band 1st Summer Concert in the Park for the 2026 season will be Patriotic-themed in keeping with the upcoming July 4th holiday and the America250 celebrations in the area. The concert will begin at 7pm at the Hyannis Village Green Bandstand . This year’s band, led once again by Patrick Riley, is even larger than last year’s and continues to have a good mix of musicians from all various age groups from school students to music professionals to retirees!
Tonight’s concert program will be kicked off by the Mark Williams arrangement of our National Anthem and will include the following songs, many of which will be familiar to the audience:
- El Capitan March
- Battle Hymn of the Republic
- Little Rhapsody in Blue
- Band of Brothers
- Armed Forces Salute
- USA-250! March
- 1812 Overture Excerpts
- Star Spangled Spectacular!
- America, The Beautiful
- Stars & Stripes Forever March
One piece from the program that may not be familiar to the audience is the USA-250! March. It is an original energetic patriotic celebration from New England composer Joe LaRosa in honor of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Written in the spirited tradition of the American concert band, the work combines brilliant fanfares, driving rhythms, and memorable melodies to capture both the excitement of the nation’s founding and the optimism of its future. Joe’s original intent was to write the march for the town band in Massachusetts he performs with in the summer and decided to share the march with all bands. Along with the dedication to the U.S.A. for the 250th Anniversary, the march is dedicated to “US Citizens: Past, Present & Future” along with those who served in the military
Another first at tonight’s concert will be the presence of an Ice Cream Truck from Perry’s Last Stand. We hope that our audience will take advantage of the first time BTB has provided a convenient source of refreshments at our concerts for our patrons and band members alike. In addition to various types of Ice Cream treats, the truck will also be stocked with an assortment of candy, soda, and chips. If we make it worth their effort, the truck will be returning for subsequent concerts….so save up all your ice cream cravings until Wednesday evening’s BTB concert at Perry’s Last Stand!
So pull up a comfortable lawn chair or bring a blanket to sit on the Hyannis Village Green lawn and picnic during our FREE concert tonight which begins at 7pm (and EVERY Wednesday evening during July and August…weather permitting). Come and join us!
